Honor Without Symbol

“I had finished my bachelor in my 50th…” Susi said, as a teacher for elementary in Diponggo who also will get her retirement in her 60th.

That morning, Susi are relaxing in her house because she still has her holiday time. Stepping on her age at 57th, she taken a role as a teacher for first year students in elementary, she found this position as she is able to use Jawean language. This profession has been in her life since she has a responsibility for her little family.


As she also become Salim older sister, now she lived in the same roof with her youngest child, Sitri. Her husband has passed away in 2015, and her oldest child, Agus, has going abroad since 2016 to take a job in cruise at America. But there’s no similarity between her and another people in Diponggo, because in her age, she still had to take care of Sitri as she has lacked perfection since born.


Since she born, Sitri had special needs which cause her to unable to communicate and having activities as any ordinary people. Nonetheless, Susi keep persevering for taken care of her, “maybe this is a test from God, so I don’t live too enjoyed” she said with little smile on her.


His role as a teacher become foothold for this village education, because for a long time, education in this village are finished in elementary. It’s not a new if plenty of her students continuing their study in Java or in another place at Bawean Island. Even so, every child in this village can be assured if they’re finishing their elementary from this village. It because this village are known for its religion learning, but in the same time, this thing also made her worried as it would make their culture stopping to exist in the near future.


Aside from her worries, Susi is a lucky one. Her study for diploma and bachelor are already finished with government full support. Even so, this fortune is also gifted upon her as her surenderness and there is no other way. In her profession, she is accompanied by another 8 teachers without any headmaster. In fact, they have to share headmaster from another elementary school because their own headmaster has ended in April 2018.


She now life in her house near Waliyah Zaenab mosquito. At her present, she also become heir for Harun Thohir house, national patriot of Indonesia who also her uncle back then. Every inch of his house still the same as the old time, but it has been painted and cleaned by TNI in 2016 for their call in patriot visit day. Moreover, TNI proposing to buy his house for building a museum, it was a good proposal but she reject their offer to buy this land but still allowing them to build a museum, she said “actualy, I really glad for that proposal, but I just don’t want to sell this house, I concerned if in the future we had no right in it at all”.
